Carbon FootprintContinuing with the overall mission to make Pavestone a greener company, the Information Technology department at Pavestone is only a few servers away from completing their overall mission to lower the carbon footprint of their servers in the Grapevine data center. Chad Wray, The Director of IT for Pavestone, is quoted as saying “The advent of virtualization has allowed us to consolidate our every growing server and storage crawl and we are estimating to save 33.2 kilowatts of power and reducing 181 tons of carbon emissions annually.” Chad and his team’s tireless efforts have paid off the past 8 months with some extraordinary results in the datacenter and they have plans to tackle the desktop environment next. Chad says the estimated result of utilizing thin clients and virtualizing the desktop’s throughout the infrastructure could reduce our overall power consumption by another 130,752 kilowatts per year and 78 tons of carbon emissions. Good things to come so stay tuned.
